4 Charged in Federal Court for Murdering Off-Duty LAPD Officer

Posted by John Rogers | Jan 15, 2022

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced charging three gang members and one gang associate with the murder of an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer. A complaint alleges that all four committed a violent crime in aid of racketeering, which carries a minimum sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

According to court filings, two of the defendants confronted the off-duty officer and his girlfriend and stole their personal items. The confrontation escalated to where the off-duty officer was shot and killed.

The four are alleged to be part of a notorious southern California criminal street gang called Florencia 13 (“F13”). F13 is a multi-generational street gang that has previously been subject to federal prosecutions.

The defendants were initially arrested by investigators from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department but were transferred into federal custody Friday morning. The defendants made their initial appearance in federal court Friday afternoon.
