The U.S. Attorney's Office reported in a press release that a Palm Springs man with a lengthy criminal record and who claimed to have led the Coachella Valley street gang was sentenced to 260 months in federal prison after admitting he sold distribution quantities of methamphetamine on five occasions.

U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer sentenced Efrain Chavez who pleaded guilty in November. When Chavez pleaded guilty, he admitted selling a total of 2.88 kilograms of methamphetamine during five transactions in 2019. The sales took place in parking lots in Cathedral City and Palm Springs.

After he completes his sentence, Chavez will be placed on supervised release for 10 years. This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Riverside County Gang Impact Team.
