The U.S. Attorney's Office reported that Richard Allen Kerr, former city mayor of Adelanto was taken into federal custody on nine counts of public corruption charges. The prosecution alleges that Kerr committed 7 counts of honest service wire fraud and committed 2 counts of bribery.

A federal grand jury indictment alleges that Kerr accepted more than $57,000 in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for approving ordinances authorizing various types of commercial marijuana activity. Specifically, in exchange for bribes and kickbacks, Kerr provided favorable official action on behalf of the city to several co-schemers that were not identified in the indictment.

Kerr was the mayor of Adelanto from 2014 to 2018. The case is being prosecuted by the Riverside branch of the U.S. Attorney's Office. The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.
