A man in Los Angeles was sentencing to more than 200 years in federal prison for driving his ex-wife and two sons off a wharf at the Port of Los Angeles into the ocean. The family was trapped and drowned to death as a result. The defendant staged the act as an accident to collect insurance proceeds taken out on their lives.
Ali Elmezayen was sentencing to 212 years by U.S. District Judge John F. Walter. Walter described Elmezayen's act as an “evil and diabolical scheme” and a “vicious and callous nature of his crime.”
During a 9-day trial, the jury found Elmezayen guilty of four counts of mail fraud, four counts of wire fraud, one count of aggravated identity theft, and five counts of money laundering.
